This carved pot is wheel-thrown, and carved with a flourish design while the clay is still pliable. After smoothing  and sanding, it is bisque-fired. The pot is then dipped in a semi-transparent aqua glaze, resulting in a glossy shine which breaks darker in the carved areas.
